Welcome to Central

“A dynamic school encouraging life-long learning, integrity and success for all”

Broken Hill Public School is often called “Central” due to its location in the heart of Broken Hill. It was the first school to open in this proud outback mining community in 1886. The school was relocated from the current Broken Hill High School grounds to its present site on the hill in 1965. The Preschool commenced operation in 2005 and is now an integral part of the schools Preschool to Year 6 focus.

Broken Hill Public School aims to:

Encourage in each child a desire to learn by promoting a happy, secure, safe and caring environment in which we provide:

  • Educational programs that are challenging, realistic and enjoyable;
  • An education that is relevant to the diversity of needs, lifestyles, aspirations and values of individual pupils, school, staff and parents in the context of the wider community;
  • The promotion of excellence in learning and the development of knowledge, skills and attitude in the six key learning areas;
  • Expectations of a code of conduct which promotes desirable behaviour that recognises the rights, needs and values of ourselves and others.
